Jim came over from Ireland because his business doing well in Britain, and went to live up in the north where homes and offices are less expensive. ‘Why not? I said ‘but you might find it a bit cold.
He found that obtaining was easy but getting one that was not too expensive was not so easy. actually, he went and got a place in an ancient building that was in a bad area in the city. Now, this was Leeds, so some of these office blocks have a lot of history, as they were built in the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
My friend Doug’s office was over 100 years old, with high ceilings and sash windows, which can be very draughty, and not much else. sound building, probably last for another 100 years. Once he had the lease he was all set to get the removal people in, when I pointed out that he would be better to get it refurbished, and not do anything else first.
get a refurbished office for a more interesting place to work
Instead he started off working at home and looked for an office refurbishment specialist. As you might expect office refurbishment in Leeds was not so difficult. In fact, there are quite a few firms that can dothe job, and they know what to do in these old buildings – if you don’t you will end up in a lot of trouble.
My pal Edgar was very familiar in using people to do repairs in the Dublin area on his properties, whether he needed building repairs, carpentry and joinery or an electrician, so he was quite surprised to find how good these guys in Leeds were – in fact, he reckoned they were as good as in Dublin. In due course, though he found it cold in winter.

As many of you know, I have been involved with the kayak renting Clear Lake group for many years. I absolutely love to kayak and have owned and personally built almost every type and size of kayak including sit-ins to sit-upons and both single person and two person models.
I have never been especially fond of ocean kayaking but prefer the tranquility and calm of floating down a quiet lagoon or exploring the hidden coves of a fresh water lake.
A few months ago, my best friend Tony and I decided to pack our favorite kayaks on top of my Hummer and travel around the country for a couple months exploring different places to splash our boats. The trip actually got extended to almost seven months but that one of the benefits of being semi-retired and not needing to go to a job. The trip also ended up taking us out of the country to Canada which hadn’t been in our original plan.
Needless to say, we had some unbelievable experiences! We kayaked mountain streams in Colorado, some beautiful lakes in Minnesota and many, many other truly fantastic spots.
One of the places we kayaked that was especially nice and rather surprising was in the Boston, MA area. We had heard that the back bays and estuaries around Boston were a particularly interesting area to kayak and we definitely found that to be true. It was amazing to find such primitive areas and wildlife within just a few miles of Harvard Square.
The only problem we had with Boston is that it is almost as expensive as New York and we had to do some serious hunting to find affordable downtown Boston hotels. We succeeded but the funny thing is that we then left the country to kayak the St. Clair lakes chain outside of Montreal, Canada and by that time we were ready to indulge ourselves and went shopping for a luxury hotel downtown Montreal.
We finally made it back to Houston after almost seven months of traveling and kayaking with memories that I hope we will never forget.

A sewing machine is a textile machine used to stitch fabric or other material together with thread. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies. Since the invention of the first working sewing machine, generally considered to have been the work of Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, the sewing machine has vastly improved the efficiency and productivity of fabric and clothing industries.
Though some older machines use a chain stitch, the basic stitch of a modern sewing machine consists of two threads and is known as lockstitch. Industrial machines are usually specialized for a specific task, and so different machines may produce a different type of stitch. Modern sewing machines are designed in such a way that the fabric easily glides in and out of the machine without the hassle of needles and thimbles and other such tools used in hand sewing, automating the process of stitching and saving time.
The fabric shifting mechanism may be a simple workguide or may be pattern-controlled (e.g., jacquard type). Some machines can create embroidery-type stitches. Some have a work holder frame. Some have a workfeeder that can move along a curved path, while others have a workfeeder with a work clamp. Needle guards, safety devices to prevent accidental needle-stick injuries, are often found on modern sewing machines.
You can find many good sewing machines on the internet. My personal favorites are Antique Singer Sewing Machines. Singer is a high quality brand that has been around for many years.
