Model Railroading

Posted by Melvin on Mar 22, 2009 in Stormy Life

Are you thinking about building a model railroad? Is so you you’ll have to decide which scale you wish to model in. Model railroad scales are G, HO, Z, S, O, and N scale. HO scale is currently the most popular scale for model railroaders. HO Scale means that scale size objects such as model railroad scenery or rolling stock will be 1/87 the size of full scale.

Smaller model railroad scales include N scale (1:160) and Z scale (1:220) and are most suitable when you only have a small space for your layout. If you have a lot of space you might select O scale with is 1:48 and easier to work with. Garden railroads use G scale which is 1:24.

Planning a model railroad is paramount before you start building. You should have a scale drawing showing all of your track plans. Begin by laying out your roadbed using actual track to get the correct arc for the curves. After you have completed the roadbed you can begin the job of putting down the track ballast

Now you can have some real fun and begin your model railroad scenery. This is where you can be creative and use your imagination. You can construct the scenery when the spirit moves you. Some modelers never entirely finish their model railroads as they are constantly adding to or changing their scenery and buildings. Some base their model railroad layout on real towns and cities while some create fictional towns and lanscape features. Whatever your preference there are many good resources online such as how-to model railroad websites, model railroad software and model railroad books.

Hair Growth Products

Posted by Melvin on Mar 22, 2009 in Stormy Life

Whether you are male or female, if you are losing hair or feel as if your hair is thinning then there is a good chance that you have considered using hair growth products to see if there is a good way for you too rectify your hair loss. Of course like any other problem in life that you want to resolve, when you first look at it there seems to be an abundance of solutions out there showing you how to prevent hair loss, and we’ll look at a few of them here

The ones that are really heavily advertised are the ones where there is a lot of money to be made by cosmetic surgery in the form of transplants or by the pharmaceutical companies in the forms of drugs. Lets look at these first.

Getting a hair transplant is not cheap, prices vary but it is always in the thousands no matter if your currency is Euros, Pounds or Dollars and more often than not it is a course of treatment and not a one off and these treatments can be painful. This course of action is not for many people really as generally price is a factor.

Prescription medication on the other hand is more accessible, but again there is a downside to this too as some of the medication out there is specifically designed to combat DHT which is caused by too much testosterone and is quite often the cause of hair loss. Because this medication is combating testosterone, there are occasions when it can also effect a mans ability to perform sexually too.

So if those are the main two solutions, and lets be honest neither of them seem that desirable for one reason or another is there anything left that can encourage hair growth? Well if you believe in alternative therapy there is and the best thing is that these products are easy to get your hands on from health stores, grocery stores or supermarkets. So lets take a look at products to prevent hair loss:-

Saw Palmetto – No-one is really certain why saw palmetto works effectively, but it is thought that it contains something in it which blocks an enzyme which turns testosterone into DHT, and if you remember from before DHT is what causes hair loss.

Nettles – Another natural ingredient for combating thinning hair is nettle root extract. Nettle is high in many beneficial properties including vitamins A & C but its main strengths in fighting hair loss is that it again can help excess testosterone and DHT.

The Final 2 products which you should be able to get from any good grocery store or supermarket are Rosemary and Sage. Basically you can use these along with some nettles to make a lotion to wash your hair with and the benefits of this is that it cleans the scalp and stimulates and thickens the hair root all in one go for you.

There is one way to get all of these hair loss products together in one go and that is with a product called Provillus. Provillus is a natural treatment for hair loss containing all the the above ingredients and more and they also have different supplements for both men and women. You can find out more about Provillus hair loss treatment at howtopreventhairloss.org

Student Laptop Insurance for School Students

Posted by Melvin on Mar 22, 2009 in Stormy Life

With the new academic year soon to start, the sales of Laptops, Notebooks, Cameras, iPods and mobile phones reaches one of the biggest peaks of the year, comparable with pre Christmas sales, as students stock up with all the latest gadgets for their new adventure of leaving home for the first time as they head of to University.

Many students are required to own a laptop computer by the collage as part of the course, whilst worrying parents insist on the departure of their children is accompanied by the latest mobile phone; a simple trick to make sure the parents can ring their child whenever they want to check they are safe!

A high percentage of new students will head for University halls of residence for the first year of the course. For most of the puples, this will be the first real time they have left home and had to fend and finance for themselves, which for many, this will prove to be a learning curve to say the least.

As the new student will be away from home for the first time, along with hundreds of other students, excessive partying is part of the course. There will be plenty of occasions throughout the first year when things will get out of control, especially when alcohol has been involved with young adults who have just found freedom!

Going back ten or twenty years things were roughly the same, except without the modern gadgets like laptops, mobiles and iPods. So when partys continued in the halls of residence after the student bars had shut, but there was not the same sort of valuable items in the students rooms.

The value of things is different today, electronic devices can easily add up to 2000 pounds and that is on the conservative side of the market. With all of the potential dangers to these products from excited, partying students, it may well be worth investing in Laptop Insurance that will cover for accidental damage and theft, but make sure water damage is included, as with all the partys, a knocked over bottle of drink could easily destroy a new laptop in seconds!

Now you could check your home contents insurance, as many companies offer ‘an away from home’ type of cover for expensive items, if you consider this method you should be aware of the following two points. Know what the excess fee will be, as is often a lot higher than stand alone policies. The second and important point that is worth knowing about is, if you make a claim on your home contents insurance, will you loose your no claims bonus? and or will the policy renewal premium sky rocket as you have made a claim?

When you make a claim on a stand alone policy the policy will often end after a claim, so you just take out a new policy at the same price.

Mobile Insurance that is a stand alone policy may well be worth a look at as well, but as with the Student Laptop Insurance, it is best to make sure water damage is included within the policy, as some insurance companies exclude water damage from the policy. This may sounds a bit odd, but its just the way the insurance business works and manages their risks. So to get top value from stand alone Laptop Insurance, check for liquid damage, as students will damage or destroy thousands of electronic gadgets with spilt liquids in the coming term!
