A Hawaiian Vacation: Many Ways to Experience the Islands

Posted by Melvin on Jun 30, 2009 in Stormy Life

If you are planning a Hawaii vacation you should consider a number of different things. Hawaii is an island chain and each is unique. You’ll see rainforests, vast waterfalls, beautiful beaches, tall mountains, plants and flowers of all colors and varieties, and unique wildlife. Whatever your particular interests, Hawaii will offer you something such as adventure tours, beach relaxing, surfing, mountain hiking, parasailing and more.

Many wedding couples and guests prefer to stay at one of Hawaii’s resorts. Quite a few resorts offer package discounts including hotel room, meals, and a variety of activities; some also have clubs for children, on-site spas and shopping, and their own Hawaii tours. Your friends or travel agents may be able to help you with resorts that they recommend, and many resorts run ads and specials to tell you about their amenities.

Be sure to visit the other islands during your trip. Kauai, for example, is a popular destination. Selecting a Kauai vacation package might be the perfect getaway! Maui is another popular destination, and is the second largest Hawaiian island. Visitors interested in history may choose to travel to Pearl Harbor on Oahu. If you are interested in geology, take a tour of Mauna Kea which is the world’s most active volcano!

Another choice would be a Hawaiian cruise. Hawaii cruises allow you to see many of the islands as you sail around the State visiting many ports. Enjoy onboard activities on the cruise ship itself or while in port tour the island, play a round of golf or hike one of Hawaii’s many trails offering spectacular scenery and off-the-beaten path beaches. Many cruises are specifically for families with children, while others are meant for romantic couples.

Whatever you choose for your Hawaii vacation package, your experience is sure to be memorable. After you arrive in Hawaii, remember to ask locals for recommendations and suggestions to enhance the authenticity of your trip. Take lots of photographs, wear sunscreen, and most of all, have fun! Visit GreatHawaiiHotels.net for more information to help you plan your Hawaiian vacation and for a great selection of Big Island hotels, Maui hotels and Kauai hotels.

San Jose Sharks

Posted by Melvin on Jun 30, 2009 in Stormy Life

The San Jose Sharks are a professional ice hockey team based in San Jose, California, United States. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). They play their home games at the HP Pavilion at San Jose.

Although Northern California was not considered a particularly fertile hockey market, the NHL’s 1967 expansion included a Bay Area team, primarily because the terms of a new television agreement with CBS called for two of the new teams to be located in California. Thus, the Oakland Seals were one of the six expansion teams added, but were a failure both on the ice and at the gate. In 1976, after nine money-losing seasons and continued low attendance, the Seals (renamed the California Golden Seals in 1970), partly owned by Cleveland businessmen George and Gordon Gund, were moved to Cleveland, where they became the Barons. After two more years of losses, the Gunds were permitted to merge the Barons with the financially struggling Minnesota North Stars (now the Dallas Stars). The Gunds emerged as the owners of the North Stars as part of the deal.

For their first two seasons, the Sharks played at the Cow Palace in Daly City, just outside San Francisco, a facility that the NHL and the Seals had rejected in 1967. Pat Falloon was their first draft choice, and led the team in points during their first season. George Kingston was their first coach during their first two seasons. Though the 1991-92 roster was primarily comprised of NHL journeymen, minor leaguers, and rookies, the Sharks had at least one notable player when they acquired 14-year veteran and former Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Doug Wilson from the Chicago Blackhawks on September 6, 1991. Wilson was named the team’s first captain and All-Star representative in the inaugural season.

Your Furniture Move Can be Painless

Posted by Melvin on Jun 30, 2009 in Stormy Life

What is the largest and heaviest of our belongings that we all must move when moving from one place to another? Yip, you guessed it. Furniture is heavy bulky and can be down right impossible to get through door ways and up tricky flights of stairs. If you want to have a much easier move and you also want to save a bit of money then you can hire people to do your furniture move while you box up and move everything else. If you have a lot of heavy furniture or live in a high-rise building then get professionals for your furniture move is going to be worth it. Whether you take my advice or not here are a few things to keep in mind before you move your furniture.

Plan Ahead

You got that furniture into the place you live so you know what it is going to take to get it out, but you need to consider the difficulties of getting that same furniture into your new place. Doorways might be a bit smaller, ceilings lower, corners and stairs could even be trickier. Take your furniture apart as much as possible so that you won’t have trouble getting it into its new home.

Hire Help

I still strongly recommend hiring help moving your furniture. If you do take this advice than you will need to book movers ahead of time. Keep in mind time of year will directly effect how hard it is going to be to get your desired dates for your move. Unless you all ready know some good furniture movers then you will need time to get some good references from friends or do some research to know which of your local movers will be the best.

Have Proper Equipment

If you plan on moving your own furniture then make sure you have the best equipment on hand to make the move easier. You don’t want to hurt yourself and you certainly don’t want to have to run out on moving day to find what you need. Consider getting moving blankets, a heavy duty hand truck, and traps. Also don’t forget to get a rental tuck.

Searching For Beautiful Firewood Racks

Posted by Melvin on Jun 29, 2009 in Stormy Life

However, its limitations are that it provides no protection against the rain and snow. An alternative to log holders is to use firewood storage sheds. This is a nice luxury to have so be sure it is built into your buying decision.

They are not designed for curing purposes and, it is critical that you use ones that let the wood breathe and do not fully cover the wood. An excellent firewood rack that is quite popular is the one made by Woodhaven. It is similar to firewood storage plans. For this reason, we recommend you make sure you can easily handle the weight of the rack before you buy.

However, be sure if using any firewood storage rack plans that the materials and end result will accommodate the tips suggested. By keeping these different options in mind, you should have a greater understanding on what are the best methods for storing firewood. We believe this is due to their better performance and less obstructive form.

Radio drama shows are fun for everyone!

Posted by Melvin on Jun 28, 2009 in Stormy Life

When I started commuting almost an hour and a half to work, I got really, really bored. That’s a long drive, and frankly the news plays the same 5 minute sound bytes over and over again. I was losing my mind.

That’s when I discovered old time radio. I happened to be searching online and came across it. I don’t remember exactly what led me to it, but I’m so glad I found it.

My discovery led to some great old shows like The Shadow, Abbot and Costello, Lights Out, Campbell’s Theater. Very cool stuff. My drive to and from work for the day suddenly became a highlight instead of a chore.

However, the more I listened to the old time radio shows, the more I got interested in whether or not there were any new shows that were created in the same “spirit” as the old ones.

Sure enough, there were! Great shows like Red Panda Adventures and Black Jack Justice from Decoder Ring Theater products. Very cool stuff.

Now, any time I’m bored sitting in a waiting room or taking a long drive, or just whatever, I let old time radio keep me entertained and enthralled instead of twiddling my thumbs.

To my great surprise, I often find myself wishing that my waits or drives were longer! Now how’s that for proof of how great these cool shows are?

Choosing the Right Kitchen Backsplash

Posted by Melvin on Jun 28, 2009 in Stormy Life

When designing and selecting materials for your new kitchen backsplash, consider functionality along with beauty. Maintenance is a turnoff for many homeowners. Once installed, they want it to take care of themselves. Materials such as ceramic or porcelain tile, stainless steel, glass and stone can be crafted into beautiful backsplashes that require little or no maintenance. Altering how an older backsplash appears or designing one from scratch serves as a quick and efficient method of brightening up your kitchen without extensive work.

When selecting a kitchen backsplash, it is important to consider the kinds of fixtures, not appliances, you have in your kitchen. Since the appliances will be replaced over time, they are less essential to bear in mind. The fixtures, being more permanent items in the kitchen, are important to remember. A tile or tint of glass may match a paint color in the room, but if it clashes with the finish on a light or cabinet door fixture, the work will not look professionally done.

A desirable aspect concerning the use of tile as a backsplash is the large selection of colors, sizes, shapes and textures that are available. You could even request a custom painted tile job to match any design theme you have or want in your kitchen. Also, tile is easy to install and clean. Multiple experts of design suggest that if you have a tiled floor then you should choose the same tile for your kitchen backsplash in a smaller size. This simplifies things if you have trouble making design decisions. Similarly, if you have a natural stone countertop, continuing the counter up the wall makes a simple, consistent backsplash in your kitchen. Stone does require occasional resealing, but the small amount of maintenance is made up for in the beauty of stone. For country kitchen styles, metal backsplashes work very well. Fixtures in the room should be noted when selecting appropriate metal tiles so they do not clash with one another.

Trendy choices are available, as well. Stainless steel backsplashes create a modern, sleek look in your kitchen. This might be one case where considering the appliances could be important. Stainless steel refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers are common and in style. Stainless steel backsplashes act to compliment these appliances. One fresh design trend used everywhere these days, including kitchen backsplashes, is glass. It is often a good decision to install glass tiles to extend all the way up to the cabinets from the counters. Glass is easy to maintain and is scratch resistant. With the numerous choices on the market, you should find no limitations in selecting just the right material and style for your kitchen.

One crazy morning

Posted by Melvin on Jun 28, 2009 in Stormy Life

One crazy afternoon I decided to help in the fight for global warming. I decided to become a LEED certified architect.

I dashed out of bed and found a place to register for the tests and pick up my study materials. After feeding the dogs and eating a quick breakfast, I jumped into the car and to my suprise found out the car was broken. I only had a few hours before the registration office closed and I need to fix the car quickly.

I searched for phoenix auto repair shops in the phone book but soon realized it was much quicker and easier to just jumb online and Google it. I found a place that looked reliable and well priced so I called them and they arranged the towing and offered a shuttle to come pick my up.It worked out great because I figured I could pick up my registration and study materials and go to a coffee shop with my laptop and begin my figh against the globall warming crisis.

However, when the shuttle dropped me off I realized I left my laptop bag at home. Well, maybe it was better because this way I coud just study and not have to worry about searching the internet and getting distracted. the car took most of the day to get fixed because I had them install a converter that made my engine get 50 mile per gallon.

So what an afternoon! Not only did I start the process to get LEED certified, I also made my car “greener”. To reward myself I went home and turned the AC on full blast!
