How to Overwinter Indoor Plants
It is finally becoming that time of year again where the temperature outside is bitter cold so it’s time to turn up the heat in your home to stay nice and warm. Now you probably don’t think that by increasing the temperatures in your home will have any affect on your plants, but in all reality it actually does.
People that learn about how to overwinter indoor plants are now becoming less likely to do it, which is why we are here to help you. Throughout the winter months plants are already loosing a lot of natural light that they are use to receiving during the summer months causing them a little stress. Stress on a plant could actually kill it so avoid over stressing your plant by knowing the ways you may be doing it.
Plants are very picky beings and could end up requiring a lot of attention. During the winter months try placing gravel in the bottom tray that your plant sits upon. When you place gravel in the tray the water that is collected in the tray will create moisture that turns into humidity which will help your plant grow nicely.
Many people make this mistake, over watering. Throughout the winter your plant won’t actually need as much water since the days are much shorter and the temperatures aren’t causing the water to evaporate on them. When you over water your plants you are actually diminishing their life span and slowly killing them.
Now one of the best ways to not overwinter your indoor plants is by giving them natural sunlight. To do this open your blinds, curtains, anything that is blocking out the sun from reaching them. Even consider moving your plants into rooms that receive much more light as this will let your plants get that needed sunlight everyday and cheer them right up.
For all those people that just learnt how to overwinter indoor plants you’ve probably had a light bulb appear above your head because of all the things you were doing throughout the winter that turned out to be bad. Many people seem to over water their plants throughout the winter and not think of putting the plants into better sunlit rooms so stop killing off your plants and learn how to overwinter indoor plants so you stop doing it. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you need to go above and beyond with the care of your plants, just take care of them right and they’ll be there for many seasons to come.
